Luigi Merola practices tax law, with a particular focus on banking, financial and insurance taxation.
He is a tax advisor to leading credit institutions, including listed entities, electronic money institutions, trust companies, as well as other major financial intermediaries.
He advises financial intermediaries on all tax-related matters, from incorporation and ongoing assistance to extraordinary transactions. He regularly deals with the tax aspects relating to the structuring of banking, financial and insurance services and products, investment services, collective asset management, payment services, bond issuances, acquisitions and securitisations of performing and non- performing receivables, derivative financial instruments and structured finance transactions.
He has been involved in several significant extraordinary projects in the banking and financial sectors, assisting intermediaries in identifying, assessing and managing the related tax implications, as well as monitoring the tax risks inherent in the implementation of strategic plans.
He is also active in the field of corporate governance. He has served and currently serves as member of the board of directors, chairman of the board of statutory auditors, standing statutory auditor and member of supervisory bodies of banks, insurance companies and financial intermediaries, as well as head and member of supervisory boards of major Italian pension funds established and managed by leading insurance groups.
He is a speaker at conferences and training courses in the banking, financial and insurance sectors. He also collaborates on a permanent basis with trade associations operating in the banking sector.
